My Treatment Philosophy

A person-centered approach with a toolbox of techniques is my best approach to building rapport with each person entering counseling. Cognitive-behavioral therapy with mindfulness techniques are my strongest tools to use, but I believe being open to what works for each person will allow me to become creative in guiding the experience in a way that will allow me to see meaningful and transformative personal growth. I want my clients to take a self-discovery and personal growth journey while making the steps to make changes in their lives by changing their thoughts and behaviors in the process.

Who I Work With

I work with children, adolescents, and adults.

What Therapy Looks Like In My Office

I want to create a safe and warm environment, where each person entering the office can truly be open and honest without the feeling of not being able to be their true authentic self. I want to be a guide in exploring feelings, thoughts, and behaviors of the people entering my office without judgement and the freedom to express them. Counseling is a big step for anyone who decides life stressors are overwhelming and I need some help.

Why I Became A Counselor

I always knew I wanted to help others and thought it would be a nurse. I was totally wrong with that decision after experiencing certain science courses in college, but I was determined to stick it out. My stubbornness and not listening to God’s direction for my life allowed me to navigate through some other obstacles until I said Yes, I surrender. Once working at a homeless shelter for women as a night manager, it gave me the confirmation that counseling was what God called me to do.

My Life Outside of Work

Personal Life

I spend time with my family and friends. I have a very large extended family so we have a lot of family gatherings throughout the year. I travel with my closest friends. I love watching sports in the NFL, NBA, college basketball, and women tennis. I love watching my Duke men’s basketball team. I love reading for leisure and trying new things. I want to plan more trips to places I have always wanted to see in the next few years.

My Favorite Movie

Coming to America and Remember the Titans are my top two favorite movies out of my 5 top ones. These movies are great because they teach about enduring some struggles in life and working hard to achieve them. Coming to America shows a person who wants to go against what his parents perceived as how he should live his life of luxury, but he wanted to have a deeper and meaningful relationship with someone who loved him and not what he can provide for her.

If I Weren't A Counselor, I'd Be...

I would be a Christian life coach. I always believed in the holistic approach to making yourself better in all aspects of your life. I’m constantly self-reflecting in my own life and striving for personal self-growth. I encourage others to do the same because people come to me about life decisions.
